Hiya Nick, thanks for joining the Community Forum!
I’ve just run this by one of our experts, and he’s taken a look at the details you’ve provided here.
With regard to your freelance work, in October 2021 - the income earned here will need to be reported in the 2021/2022 tax year as the tax year starts on 6 April (2021) to 5 April (2022). This income doesn’t impact the 2020-2021 tax year.
Although the above indicates you may not have to file a Self Assessment for 2020-2021, you indicated you already had a UTR number but didn’t indicate when you were registered. If HMRC were notified of your trading prior to 6th April 2021, then a Self Assessment will be required for 2020-2021 tax year. If it was after, then Self Assessment will be for the 2021-2022 tax year onwards.
We have plenty more info and a video you might find useful in this Knowledge article about Freelancing on the Side.
Hope this helps!
