Hi Chris,
Once we receive payment to produce your personal tax return an accountant will produce the return based on all the information that has been supplied.
If anything is not clear or we have further questions based on the information given we will contact you at that point. We are also there to help with any questions you have on the return, such as a review of allowable expenses as you have requested.
You indicated claiming for things such as trading allowance and use of home etc. Our accountants review what is being claimed and in this context for instance will not claim both as you cannot claim both. Trading allowance is recommended for those who have expenses less than £1,000 and claiming it means we ignore the actual expenses incurred. If your actual expenses were greater than £1,000, the accountant will take the greater value to ensure tax efficiency.
Once the return has been completed a senior accountant will then review the return in full before the return is then sent to you in full for you to approve. Once you are happy and have approved the return, we will proceed to file it with HMRC.
The other point you raised was about being newly-self employed and knowing what to claim, etc. If you will be a subscription client (paying monthly), then you will have unlimited access to accountants to discuss any questions you may have. If you will only be paying for the Self Assessment service, then our services will only be limited to the production and filing of your personal tax return. You can however book our Ask an Accountant session to discuss a wider range of topics that a self-employed individual should know about through a free account for just £39.50 +VAT.
Kindest regards,
Alexandra Moore
