I guess the preference on Desktop vs Laptop is personal, however, one major consideration for a Laptop over a Desktop would simply be convenience and mobility. If you get inspired while on the move or simply have a moment of brilliance, it’s right there at your fingertips!
- In the past, I’ve used https://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/ for pre-built computers/laptops - they’re reasonably priced and should pack the right punch for whatever it is you need.
While some aspects of Laptops can be customised, you’re pretty limited to what you’re able to do in terms of upgrades/customisation so I’d say Desktop definitely takes the winnings on this.
Personally, I’ve always used https://www.scan.co.uk/ to buy parts for my Desktop and upgrade as/when required.
In terms of specifications for your equipment, it really depends on what you’ll be using it for.
- Do you want a computer purely for development/business purposes?
- Do you want something that will be able to provide some entertainment too?
- Are you a gamer or have any other hobbies such as design/photography, etc.
