How to make a claim for uniform cleaning - Sole Trader

Good evening everyone. I am sole trader trying to work out how to claim a simplified expense for cleaning of uniform. Looking at HMRC it seems that there is a flat fee for this??? But if so, then how do I account for this in the crunch accounting software ready for my self assessment return? Hope someone can advise, Regards Carl

Hi Carl,

If you incur costs for having a uniform professionally cleaned you can claim this as an expense. HMRC’s website states you can claim either the full cost or an agreed-upon flat rate.

This flat rate would apply if you were an employee claiming costs back via your employer. For you, as a business owner, you’ll claim the full amount.

To record this in your Crunch account, please create an expense using the category ‘Employee costs > Staff welfare’.
