Claiming driving fees as an expense

I am a wedding florist that currently doesn't drive. I pay someone on an ad hoc basis to drive to jobs in order to deliver the flowers, so I am not the driver so I know I can't claim mileage.

My question - if I ask them to invoice me every time, am I able to claim this as an outgoing to offset against profit? I'm in my first year of business and have only just earnt over the 1k threshold so it's all pretty new to me. Thanks.

Hi Gem, this is an allowable expense as it's wholly and exclusively for the purposes of trade.

You're effectively subcontracting out a part of your service offering - we'd probably suggest recording this expense as "subcontractor costs" to avoid any confusion that you may have a company vehicle yourself.
